Essie 2015 Cashmere Matte Collection - Swatches & Review

Tuesday, December 30, 2014
Hi everyone!

Today, I'm very excited to share swatches of the new Cashmere Matte Collection from Essie with all of you.  I was so shocked when they showed up at my house unexpectedly, but ecstatic, of course.  Essie has always been one of my favorite brands, in fact it probably started my whole love of nail polish to begin with.

The Cashmere Matte Collection consists of six gorgeous neutrals with a satin-matte finish.  Four of them have an intense duochrome shimmer, which is very noticeable on the nail in both matte and shiny finishes.

Comfy In Cashmere is described as a "mauve with deep velvet undertones".  I would say it's a mauve-toned taupe, with bright blue shimmer.  I found this one to be very flattering in person, and the formula is so nice and smooth.  The shimmer gives an amazing sheen to the polish, and under lights the shimmer really stands out.  I'm wearing two coats in the photos.

Just Stitched is described as a "warm pearly-plush pink", which is the perfect description.  It's the most beautiful, soft pink with turquoise shimmer that shifts pink.  It was slightly more sheer than the others, but covered well, and the matte finish is so smooth.  I'm wearing three thin coats in the photos, and it's definitely my favorite in the collection.

Wrap Me Up is described as a "whisper soft pink".  To me, it's more of an ivory cream, and it reminds me of a warm version of Urban Jungle (which I love!).  It has a really nice formula, only requiring two coats, however I do wish it had the amazing shimmer that the others do to make it a bit more special.  It's still a lovely neutral to have, though.

Edit: A reader wanted to see a comparison between Wrap Me Up & Urban Jungle, so I've created one.  I'm wearing two coats of each, and I've shown UJ with a matte top coat, as well as WMU with a shiny top coat.  Hope it helps! :)
Essie Urban Jungle vs. Wrap Me Up

All Eyes On Nudes is described as a "camel-hued neutral tone", which is right on point.  It's a warm nude, so if you have a warm skin tone like myself, you'll love this one.  It has a great formula that is opaque in two coats, and dried to the same lovely matte finish.

Coat Couture is described as a "sultry greige beneath deep purple shimmer".  This is another favorite of mine, however I would say it's more of a soft purple with a grey undertone, and teal shifting shimmer.  It definitely has the nicest formula, and the shimmer is the most noticeable as well.  I'm wearing two coats in the photos.

Spun In Luxe is described as a "sophisticated matte blue-black".  It looks more black than blue on the nail, but the gorgeous blue multicolored shimmer gives it a really nice sheen and stands out well.  It was opaque in one coat, and dried to the same lovely matte finish.

I'm so pleased that Essie is releasing more unique shimmery polishes, plus the matte finish is absolutely perfect!  They seem to be a lot more forgiving than other matte polishes I've tried as well.  You still have to work quite fast since they dry fast, but I didn't have any noticeable brushstrokes or any problems at all.

The Cashmere Matte Collection will be available in salons this January, and the collection is definitely worth checking out!  My picks: Coat Couture, Just Stitched, and Spun In Luxe.

Which one is your favorite?  Let me know in the comments below.

Thank you for reading! :)

  9. Lovely!

Could you do a comparison of Wrap Me Up and Urban Jungle please? Either WMU with glossy topcoat or UJ with matte topcoat. Because I already owned UJ and I'm not sure about the Cashmere Matte one ;-)

    Sincerely

    1. Thank you Jacqueline! I added a comparison to the post for you (under the Wrap Me Up swatch). I'd say skip WMU if you have a nice matte top coat. While the matte finish is super nice on this collection, there's not a big difference between the shades, however WMU is slightly warmer which I do find a tiny bit more flattering on me. From a distance they look nearly identical though. Hope that helps! :)
